Empowering Adults with Developmental Disabilities

Our Bethesda Support Workers work with individuals in their homes or the community to engage in recreational-based and social activities. They may also assist in developing employment, volunteer or daily life skills.

Personalized Support for Community Engagement

Bethesda’s Passport Services will work closely with you to discuss your current needs, identify activities you enjoy, and establish personal goals.

Once your personalized plan is set, Bethesda will support you to participate, based on your choices, activities such as:

  • Developing social, communication, and life skills

  • Participating in community events, classes, and recreational programs

  • Providing respite care for unpaid caregivers

  • Other personally developed activities

Who is Eligible for Passport Funding?

Adults aged 18 or older with a developmental disability can apply for Passport funding. Developmental Services Ontario determines eligibility. Caregivers are encouraged to begin the application process at age 16 to ensure a smooth transition.

  • The Passport Program is a reimbursement program, funded by the Ministry of Children, Community and Social Services (MCCSS), that provides funding to adults with developmental disabilities so they can participate in community activities and develop daily living skills. The program also helps caregivers receive respite support.

  • For Direct Supports, please contact Bethesda’s Manager of Passport Services at:

  • Through our Fee for Service Passport Program, Bethesda can provide you with a Direct Support Staff to assist you in:

    • Developing social, communication, and daily life skills

    • Participating in community events, classes and recreational programs

    • Providing in home respite care for unpaid caregivers

    Bethesda also offers group classes, social events, and recreational programs. These are offered virtually and in-person.  

  • Yes, you must submit receipts and invoices to demonstrate that the funds were used for approved services and supports. Passport recipients who self – administer their funds can submit online via the Passport eClaim or MyDirectPlan portals.

  • Adults aged 18 and older who have been diagnosed with a developmental disability and are residents of Ontario can be eligible for the Passport Funding Program. To apply, individuals must contact Developmental Services Ontario (DSO), which manages the application process. The DSO will assess the applicant’s needs and determine eligibility.
