The role of a Psychometrist is primarily focused around data; its acquisition, analysis, and interpretation. Gathering and understanding data on how a child learns and interacts with various types of information is essential to helping to make effective decisions for their care and support as they grow and develop.
Psychometrists are professionals who have expertise in psychological assessments and who administer and analyze neuropsychological, psychological, personality, social/emotional, and academic tests in various environments.
Here at Bethesda the role of the Psychometrist is two-fold. The Psychometrist is one of the team members on the CDAS team who helps provide additional data when needed to clarify a diagnosis of Autism Spectrum Disorder, Developmental/Intellectual Disability, or Learning Disability. Additionally, the Psychometrist provides individual psychological assessments independently of the team based on referrals specifically relating to developmental concerns. In both of these roles, I receive supervision from a registered Clinical Psychologist who supervises my work and provides final diagnoses where relevant.
Prior to joining Bethesda, I received my Master’s (MA) and Educational Specialist degree (EdS) in Michigan where I worked in the school districts as a School Psychologist and assisted teachers, staff, and parents/guardians gather, assess, and monitor various types of data related to children’s learning in order to help make decisions to better support their educational needs. After my time there, I decided to return home to Ontario to help support the communities and families I grew up in and joined the wonderful team here at Bethesda Children and Youth Services.
